A Rainbowfish from further north. First collected in 1996 by Eng Chua and Adrian Dawson in Wallaby Creek, a tributary of the Annan River south of Cooktown, Cape York Peninsula, north Queensland. Its body shape and unpaired fins much like Melanotaenia trifasciata, the Banded or Regal Rainbowfish, but it does not display the bright nape band when courting, so typical for 'trifasciata'. These two males courtesy of Aimee and Steve Brooks. Gunther Schmida, 2020
