Found all over East Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and South Zaire, not a great aquarium plant - produces a few submerged leaves then produces only floating leaves.

Primarily floating leaves. Seasonal in nature. No records of success in aquaria.

From Zaire. Perhaps Zambia. Only known from herbarium sheet. Grows in deep fast flowing water.

Water Hawthorne. Originally found in the Cape of South Africa this species has been migrated by man all over the world primarily as a decorative pond plant, although the tubers are eaten as potatos would be in some parts of Africa and the vanilla scented flowers are used canned or fresh in a lamb stew in South Africa.
