Dale Weber, BAKA founder, AKA Auctioneer, 19?? - 1997
From: "The Species Seekers" By Richard Coniff:
"
Weber, Dale (19??-1997), an American ichthyologist, killed in a car accident in Brazil, age unknown, who made numerous trips to Panama, Venezuela, and Brazil to study and collect killifish species. He died, a friend reports, “when his car swerved off a mountain road in Brazil to avoid an oncoming bus. His son, 19, was with him in the car and escaped unharmed but Dale was trapped upside down and drowned in a river full of killifish in the middle of the Brazilian Amazon.”
"
Rivulus weberi is named for him.

Derek Wheaton
I saw this name for many years before meetting him online; his reputation preceeed him for the name was aways associated with stunning and far above average quality hotos of North American native fish. In h present day Derek works with the conservation of endangered native fish. On a personal note, my life with fish began fishing blue darters and minnows out of a local creek every change I could get on weekends and sometimes evenings and of course all summer. Derek still does that and I live vicariously through his work, each time reminding me of the joy and wonder of a simple creek ecosystem, every day of the year.

"I am so sad to hear about the passing of my good friend Trevor. What a shock. I have so many happy memories of being in his company on numerous Notho field trips in southern Africa. As someone else mentioned above - he was a true gentleman and good friend." - Brian Watters
The loss of his favorite, N. pienaari MOZ 99-9, is now all the sadder. This is very sad news." - Tyrone Genade
