Hans Evers: "Glossogobius concavifrons
In 2011 I was lucky enough to observe this nice species in the clear waters of Timika, West Papua, Indonesia. It was the first time for me but not the last. In the following years I came back to Timika several times and could also manage to photograph this goby under water in its natural habitat. Knowing the home of this up to 15cm long, quite peaceful species helped a lot to reproduce it for several generations in my home aquarium. They are the perfect mates for rainbow fish as they settle in the lower regions of the tank and do neither harm any of their tankmates nor each other. These cave spawners have weird looking eggs that hang down from the cave´s ceiling. The male guards the eggs up to 20 days until the tiny fry hatches and needs another week or so to absorb the yolk sacs. The right water, plenty of mid-sized food (frozen krill and Mysis, Artemia or even blood worms and other midge larvae) and a lot of patience made me succeed several times over the years. Main problem? Nobody was interested in the offspring, a somewhat well known problem for breeders of oddballs...
