Danio

jaintianensis

This is a cool water species and should be kept at less than 23°C. It is a species that I find very difficult to keep! This species has only limited availability and is always expensive; it was first bred by Hans Georg Evers. - Pete Cottle

kerri

They hate me in Allen's aquarium in Los Angeles now because I got them to take out 200 pearl danios, one by one, have me inspect them, just to find the 14 B. kerri that were in the tank.

I found 7 more at Seven Seas in San Pedro. Fortunately for both of us they were in a tank with only 14 other pearl danios.

In my experience that's how you'll find these in stores, they're seldom offered otherwise.

kyathit

striped

Both spotted and striped variations occur in nature and are found together.

Pearl Danio

tinwini

Previously "species Burma"; "Danio sp TW02"; from Sha Du Zup Village Kachin State, Myanmar; To 30mm S.L.

"This species arrived in the UK in 2003. Another one of the many discoveries made by Mr Tin Win of Hein Aquarium Yangon and it was his company that made it available to the hobby. In many ways, this species resembles Danio kyathit however it can easily be distinguished from kyathit by observing the following criteria. The unpaired fins and the pelvis fins in D. tinwini are spotted. In D.kyathit, the pelvic fins are not marked but the dorsal and anal fins have stripes. D. kyathit has developed rostral and maxillary barbels whereas D. tinwini has a rudimentary or no rostral barbels and and short maxillary barbels." - P.W. Cottel. Named after U Tin Win.
