Campo

This one comes from the extreme south of Cameroon, near Campo. Right at the border of the Campo Ma’an National Park, we discovered a very special local form of the Lobé strain.

Normally, males of Pelvicachromis kribensis "Lobé"show no dots or pattern in the caudal fin. But this population breaks that rule completely.

Some males display one large black spot, surrounded by a bright bluish margin.

Others show several small black dots, again edged with a bluish glow.

And some males look exactly like the “classic” Lobé form, with no dots at all, only a red margin in the upper part of the caudal fin

A truly strange and fascinating variant when compared to the Lobé forms we already know.

Even at this very location, these fish are far from common and not easy to find. But with patience—and a bit of luck—we succeeded and managed to bring back a small group.
